Restoration magic

I was given a special photo by a friend. It was one of very few that survived the fire.
So she came to me to restore this photo of herself as a little girl.
I knew it was possible to bring back some life to the photo but I didn't realize how awesome it was going to turn out! See the before and after...

I used my special technique called "Clarity". Using the dodge and burn tool and the clone I was able to draw in soft and blurred features like the mouth. I brought life back to the eyes. And her nose! I love how the nose came out! And the eyes. Gah! It's so exciting when magic unfolds before my eyes. I'm so glad she loves her new photo.

You know how many times I've "saved" this photo? Just when I think I'm done with it I'd hit save but then take another look and think "could I make this section better?" So I'd continue working on it. Then hit save. But before I sent it I'd take a gander again and think the same. It must have been 5 times I went back to tweak some more.
Have you done something like that before? Just when you think your project is complete you go back to make it better?

I hope you've enjoyed looking at this restoration and hope it's giving you ideas.

    About KAT

My philosophy is that photography should lighten up the heart and the eyes with vibrant color, light and majesty as memories flood back into the mind and soul. No cringing allowed. Only magic!
I'm a stay at home mom of our little girl! Photo retouching and restoration have always been my passion since the 1990's. When I'm not retouching I take care of my little girl, my husband, follow God and spend time with His people. All while listening to music all the time. ;-) I also enjoy playing the piano, learning to sew, eat Thai food,  lifting weights, singing hymns and trying to make my house a home.  Read more...
