So you've just uploaded your photos from your recent photo shoot of an adorable family or wedding. Then you start to cull to end up with the amount you want to share with your client. Except, a few of the final amazing images have something that gives you that OCD feeling that you maybe didn't know you had? Nod if any of these sound familiar. There's the little girl's hair covering her eye! Some strange person got in the frame with a loud colored top on! You can't help having your eye draw to him. The sky had no clouds whatsoever but the moment was spectacular. But, no clouds! This bride's photo is perfect except for her unmentionable is peeking through just enough to drive you crazy! Daughter was so clingy to mommy and the only photo that could work for a solo shot has mommy's hand in the frame. Ugh! These are just a few possible scenarios. Actually, a lot of these happened to me! It's a good thing I happen to dapper in Photo Retouching for over 20 years. If you can relate to any of these scenarios, and you don't want to scrap great photos before presentation, then read more on why you NEED a photo retoucher in your life.

THIS is exactly what I LOVE doing! I may not have been the photographer for my cousin's wedding but she allowed me to put my magical touches to this photo. When I first saw this photo, a vision popped into my head. And to our amazement, this glorious photo came to be...

Damaged prints from the floods

9/7/2017

My heart aches for every one who is suffering from current natural disasters of fires and floods. Fortunately, in some aspect, my family and I haven't been affected by fire or flood. However, we have experienced the tremendous smoke from nearby fires.

On our recent trip to the Grand Tetons we met a wonderful couple who are from Texas. The woman is a wedding planner and brought up the idea that many photo albums are probably damaged due to the floods. And they would need to be saved as much as possible. This brought an idea to my mind....

Dream wedding photo makeover

So you had an amateur photographer for your wedding. Or simply that your favorite photo didn't come out right like the lighting shifted due to clouds or the sun, your best pose/smile/look was not at the ideal location, or someone ran into the frame at the same time. Whatever the case may be, the point is, when you look at your photo, you're not happy.
My mother remarried back when I was in college studying to be a Digital Imagist aka Photo Retoucher. I've learned photography and had a job with the College's newspaper as a Photo Journalist. (That sounds so cool doesn't it?)
I was so excited about this new photography skill and having the means to borrow a professional camera I asked my mother to be her photographer. What does she say? "Of course!"
Little did I know that it takes more than a pro camera to take stunning wedding photos. I was still so new that I totally missed that special Newly Wed couple pose of magic. The best one they like is...well...you can see below...Just you wait to see how it comes out in the end!

Before you say nope, show me

It's pretty damaged. I don't know if you'll be able to salvage it.

[Insert sly grin ;-)]
Don't say "nope" when the answer can very well be "YES!"
I'm just glad she took the extra step and sending me the photo to evaluate it.
That's when I knew I can do it.......

I was given a special photo by a friend. It was one of very few that survived the fire.
So she came to me to restore this photo of herself as a little girl.
I knew it was possible to bring back some life to the photo but I didn't realize how awesome it was going to turn out! See the before and after...

Don't you just love newborn squishiness? I was given the privilege to photograph this special little newborn still in the hospital. Yes! Still at the hospital. No special equipment, lighting, tools was needed. Just my camera and flash. And a blanket.
Then comes the magic....

Restoration impossible

Never give up before you start

That's my motto when it comes to challenging restoration projects.
Take this photo, for instance.
Looking at it closely you can see it's almost like a dot print art.
Not much detail to work with. I thought it would take days for me to clean this up. But as I started working on it........

Fairy and my little girl

When a baby girl is looking down at something, this screams to me, "put a fairy on whatever she's holding!"
And that's just what I did. Something about glowing, glittery stars around a little child really makes it truly magical doesn't it? In the eyes of a little girl who loves tinkerbell and fairies their eyes will light up in wonder and awe especially when they see themselves interacting with this fairy! Oh my gosh! Can you say "Best Christmas Gift EVER!"? Ok now that I've given you a great idea...go on and send me a message and together we'll pick out the best photo to work with. ;-)

    About KAT

My philosophy is that photography should lighten up the heart and the eyes with vibrant color, light and majesty as memories flood back into the mind and soul. No cringing allowed. Only magic!
I'm a stay at home mom of our little girl! Photo retouching and restoration have always been my passion since the 1990's. When I'm not retouching I take care of my little girl, my husband, follow God and spend time with His people. All while listening to music all the time. ;-) I also enjoy playing the piano, learning to sew, eat Thai food,  lifting weights, singing hymns and trying to make my house a home.  Read more...
