"I'm looking for help with this old photo of my grandmother. I am finding a lot use bright and insane colors that people would not have worn and unrealistic looking with other sellers...." says my client and now friend, Alice.S.
Have you come across such photo restorers/retouchers?
This was the beginning of a beautiful working experience. Alice wanted to have this photo of her grandmother restored as a gift. I'm so glad that she got what she wanted and with stories to tell too. Read on for more on the before and after of this amazing photo!

Say hello to the newest restored photo! It gives me great joy that I've given that joy to a client who is giving this photo of herself (photo taken in 1961) as a gift. She claimed the photo to have acquired mold and not able to be cleaned. With all orders I utilize my careful skill, time and eye to restore detail and remove unwanted blotches and scratches. Also, how would it look like in a gorgeous frame? Read on to see the aftermath....

Damaged prints from the floods

9/7/2017

Comments

My heart aches for every one who is suffering from current natural disasters of fires and floods. Fortunately, in some aspect, my family and I haven't been affected by fire or flood. However, we have experienced the tremendous smoke from nearby fires.

On our recent trip to the Grand Tetons we met a wonderful couple who are from Texas. The woman is a wedding planner and brought up the idea that many photo albums are probably damaged due to the floods. And they would need to be saved as much as possible. This brought an idea to my mind....

Dream wedding photo makeover

So you had an amateur photographer for your wedding. Or simply that your favorite photo didn't come out right like the lighting shifted due to clouds or the sun, your best pose/smile/look was not at the ideal location, or someone ran into the frame at the same time. Whatever the case may be, the point is, when you look at your photo, you're not happy.
My mother remarried back when I was in college studying to be a Digital Imagist aka Photo Retoucher. I've learned photography and had a job with the College's newspaper as a Photo Journalist. (That sounds so cool doesn't it?)
I was so excited about this new photography skill and having the means to borrow a professional camera I asked my mother to be her photographer. What does she say? "Of course!"
Little did I know that it takes more than a pro camera to take stunning wedding photos. I was still so new that I totally missed that special Newly Wed couple pose of magic. The best one they like is...well...you can see below...Just you wait to see how it comes out in the end!

Before you say nope, show me

It's pretty damaged. I don't know if you'll be able to salvage it.

[Insert sly grin ;-)]
Don't say "nope" when the answer can very well be "YES!"
I'm just glad she took the extra step and sending me the photo to evaluate it.
That's when I knew I can do it.......

I was given a special photo by a friend. It was one of very few that survived the fire.
So she came to me to restore this photo of herself as a little girl.
I knew it was possible to bring back some life to the photo but I didn't realize how awesome it was going to turn out! See the before and after...

Restoration impossible

Never give up before you start

That's my motto when it comes to challenging restoration projects.
Take this photo, for instance.
Looking at it closely you can see it's almost like a dot print art.
Not much detail to work with. I thought it would take days for me to clean this up. But as I started working on it........

What a wonderful event to celebrate and enjoy! Your wedding!
Now after all your expenses have gone to the cake, the caterer, the band, the dresses, flowers etc
And what you may have not thought much of is the photographer.
So you're here because perhaps your photos didn't come out as excellent as you thought they'd naturally be.
And now that the wedding is over, the magic is over and all you're left with are drabby, busy, eyes closed, bad posed, unmagical photos.

I'm sorry you have that to remember your magical day by. Let's not say it's over though.
Because magicians such as myself are able to give that magic touch to bring it back to life.

Read and see how I can recreate a little of that magical feel in your photos!

    About KAT

My philosophy is that photography should lighten up the heart and the eyes with vibrant color, light and majesty as memories flood back into the mind and soul. No cringing allowed. Only magic!
I'm a stay at home mom of our little girl! Photo retouching and restoration have always been my passion since the 1990's. When I'm not retouching I take care of my little girl, my husband, follow God and spend time with His people. All while listening to music all the time. ;-) I also enjoy playing the piano, learning to sew, eat Thai food,  lifting weights, singing hymns and trying to make my house a home.  Read more...
