Before you say nope, show me

It's pretty damaged. I don't know if you'll be able to salvage it.

Don't say "nope" when the answer can very well be "YES!"
I'm just glad she took the extra step and sending me the photo to evaluate it.
That's when I knew I can do it.......

Bringing detail back to the faces was no problem for me. Pretty much everything else went real well. I suggested removing the background and replacing with a wall so it's less distracting. She agreed.
The big challenge was to bring back the baby's dress because there is no detail for reference for me to use. And she didn't remember what the baby wore really.
I gave mama the option of me replacing with a new dress.
We pondered over it because as I began searching, I only found one that may have worked. It would take more time to reshape the dress to fit the baby.
The pondering was, please consider this for yourselves, "Would you be ok having your baby wear a different dress than what she wore that day?"
Are you the type who doesn't mind a new detail to your memory?
Or would it ruin the nostalgia of the photo? Some clients do care and some don't.
It's really up to you and how you want to feel when you look at your photo.

In all honesty I'm sure I could have made it work. We both decided that as it is right now, looks beautiful.
"You know .. . It's perfect as it is." She said.
Who doesn't love a glowy gorgeous baby right?

The most important is that the photo as a whole is a LOT cleaner, clearer and in focus. And she can enjoy her memory of being a new mommy of her precious baby.

Our next project is me restoring a photo of herself as a baby! She's currently trying to find the original. All she has is the photocopy. Hopefully soon I'll restore her baby photo. Stay tuned!

So if you think your photo is impossible to restore, please don't give up on it
Let me have a look at it.
I want to see more!

    About KAT

My philosophy is that photography should lighten up the heart and the eyes with vibrant color, light and majesty as memories flood back into the mind and soul. No cringing allowed. Only magic!
I'm a stay at home mom of our little girl! Photo retouching and restoration have always been my passion since the 1990's. When I'm not retouching I take care of my little girl, my husband, follow God and spend time with His people. All while listening to music all the time. ;-) I also enjoy playing the piano, learning to sew, eat Thai food,  lifting weights, singing hymns and trying to make my house a home.  Read more...
